Steven Schlozman, M.D., an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, a child psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital, and the associate director of the Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital, believes that passing storytelling on to children is critical to their well-being. He says, “Kids spin rousing adventures out of thin air, working through their triumphs, fears and most intense disappointments in the safe space that stories afford. Research shows that kids use storytelling in a wide range of ways that improves their well-being, from coping with being different from peers to dealing with illness and grief.” |
