In the middle-twentieth century, a German-board Jewish man makes his way from the Lower East Side of Manhattan to Covington, Georgia where he buys a jewelry store and marries the daughter of one of the town’s founding families. Generations later, these relatives of intertwined faiths bond anew over a painting: an heirloom of great and unexpected value.
