Jim Hawkins:
Jim has been hearing and telling stories since he was a child growing up in Ireland.
This evening Jim tells some stories from his performance, “Driving Across America with Billy Zuckerman.”
In the summer of 1970, Jim and Billy drove a Volvo, with camping equipment and about $500 each, across the USA for six weeks. They saw most of the country, generating a Feature’s worth of lasting memories.
He listened to his Uncle Jack and neighbors tell and was fascinated.
During his teaching career of 39 years, he read and told to his students in a variety of genres. He became a full-time teller when he retired from teaching in 2009. He tells stories and sings songs from the “Irish Tradition” many of which are in his CD, “My Own Native Land.”
Presently, he is telling stories from his collection, “Growing Up in America” and he is completing a 6 year Storytelling project, “The Irish People in Story, Song, Poetry and Narration.” It chronologically introduces a person and/or event in Irish history through story, song or poetry with a 5 minute explanation of the importance of that person/event. It has 4 parts running 70 minutes each. Publicity and performance will begin in 2022.
