Bio
For Sandra Measels, the best part of storytelling is the sense of community she feels when telling or hearing a good story. She tells about independent women in the Bible and legendary women of Mississippi and about the time her niece singlehandedly stopped a train on the outskirts of London. At this year>s National Storytelling Conference, she told the story of her grandmother, Annie McDonald Jackson, in a Fringe performance entitled <She Called Him Mister, But She Didn>t Mean It.<
She gets her love of storytelling honestly. She grew up listening to her daddy>s stories about the army and World War II Czechoslovakia and their fifth-generation Mississippi family.
She has been telling her own stories for years, mostly to her friends and to her community college students. Now, however, she enjoys telling stories to a wider audience. Aside from the Fringe, her favorite storytelling experience was the week she spent in Romania, where she told Bible stories to gypsy children in the villages of Transylvania.
Once upon a time, she wrote romances, which were consistently praised and promptly rejected by editors everywhere. More recent publications include <Bringing Biblical Women to Life,< published in InSideStory--an ezine of the Florida Storytelling Association, and a history of her church>s first 100 years.
