NSN is excited to welcome Micaela Blei, Moth Director of Education and two-time Moth GrandSLAM Champion, who will be presenting a workshop on connecting with your audience. This workshop will give participants the opportunity to work on developing their own content and techniques.

There are only two fluent Nuwä (Kawaiisu or Paiute)  speakers left on Earth:  Luther Girado and his sister Lucille Girado Hicks.  the Girados are the last people who will ever be raised in an Indian household were Nuwä is the only language spoken. They grew up in Walker Basin and the Caliente Creek area of mountainous East Kern County, California, about 30 miles southeast of Bakersfield.

NSN is excited to be partnering with NSN organizational member, Scangaroo, and Mid-Continent Public Library's Midwest Genealogy Center for a digitization party!

Grab some of that stack of old photos or documents that you have lying around and join us for a digitization party at the Midwest Genealogy Center! Scangaroo will bring their mobile scanning units and digitize pictures and/or documents for free (limit 10 items per person). Registration is not required but those who register for one of the available time slots are guaranteed that their items will be digitized; walk ins will be accepted if time allows. During the event, staff from Mid-Continent Public Library’s Woodneath Story Center and staff from the National Storytelling Network will be available to speak with you about how to write down the memories or stories about your items and how you can compile the digitized items and memories/stories in a format that you can share among family or friends. This event is a partnership of the Mid-Continent Public Library Story Center, Midwest Genealogy Center, the National Storytelling Network and Scangaroo.

All attendees of the MLA 2018 Conference (October 10-12) will be invited to attend a Performer Showcase scheduled for Wednesday, October 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (Performers will be scheduled 8-11. From 11:00-11:30 p.m., attendees may visit performers’ tables to pick up information and ask questions.) This is a great opportunity to present a short sneak preview of your program, distribute promotional materials and speak with librarians from around Missouri. The Performer Showcase Selection Committee will be looking for quality programming appropriate for children, teens, and/or families at a reasonable cost to the host libraries. More details about this opportunity can be found by clicking the button below.
