Often job interviewees focus on their credentials and competence. An interviewer spending a day interviewing candidates for a job might end up feeling she ,hadn’t had the chance to actually meet any of them. A story illustrating their character makes candidates memorable.

Some tips about creating job interview stories:
- Don’t overshare – stick to personal information and avoid private details of your life.
- Don’t ramble – have an intriguing beginning,a riveting middle and a satisfying end.
- Don’t limit yourself to the role of “hero” – interesting stories can arise from your role as friend, mentor, sidekick, or witness to a discovery or a beautiful transformation.
- Don’t forget the takeaway so that the interviewer will remember you and the qualities displayed in your story.
- Don’t replay the narrative – don’t obsess over the interview after the fact.
