The Legacy of Angela Lloyd

Angela was a teaching artist in two private schools for over 35 years. She was a prolific performance artist for children and adults, a mentor for other storytellers, an active participant in  storytelling and meditation communities.  Angela brought her immense knowledge as a theater artist, storyteller, musician, and visual artist to the classroom and to teachers.  She was an advocate for oral storytelling, for trust in one’s  heart, dedicated to helping youth find  authentic  ways of communication with others,  and always celebrated the  joy of creativity as an act of compassionate action.

Her voice was unique in the storytelling world, combining years of mindfulness practice, improvisation and deep listening to every child, teacher or parent.  Whatever was needed, or whatever was occurring Angela responded with full intention and heart always bringing the best out of children, and inviting them to see beyond what was familiar. Her legacy continues to nurture storyteller educators, artists, writers, and others.

This award will support the future of her vision. –Laura Simms 2025
