Summary:
A NEW scheme to bring books to life is being launched in Lancaster next week. The Living Libraries in Lancashire scheme gives visitors to the city’s library the chance to ‘borrow’ living books.
The ‘books’ – who are actually volunteers from the district – will give borrowers a fascinating insight into their lives, sharing their inspirational stories, local history and cultural knowledge, career achievements or interesting jobs, life-changing experiences and unusual hobbies.
People will be able to ‘hire’ the living books for 30 minutes a time by booking either beforehand or on the day. On ‘hire’ in Lancaster will include:
Counting in Cantonese with Kim Leong
Life in a Totalitarian Regime with Matt Egan
Flag Floors and Rag Rugs with Janet Rogan

Run by Lancashire County Council and supported by Unison, Living Libraries in Lancashire aims to encourage people to find out more about others from different backgrounds.
