Rico Rodriguez:
Rico Rodriguez is an award-winning storyteller, musician, drag performer, educator and Union Activist. Drawing from his Latinx and queer identities, in this performance will tell us some of his personal stories and folktales which are infused with themes of equity and social change. He promises to captivate us by his masterful use of humour, which lightens even the most painful topics, to make complex issues accessible and engaging.
Rico will also tell us about his workshops on integrating storytelling into educational settings, community outreach, and health promotion. He has shared his work in schools, theatres, libraries, festivals, pubs, and conferences across Canada and the U.S., and has been featured on CBC Radio and NPR. In 1997, Rico founded “Queers in Your Ears,” a 2SLGBTQI+ storytelling event that is now in its 28th year. His projects have received support from the Canada Council, Toronto Arts Council, and Ontario Arts Council, The Toronto Raptors Foundation and others.
Rico Rodriguez believes storytelling unites people by conveying universal values. “Storytelling is a powerful tool to foster understanding, respect, and appreciation, celebrating both our shared humanity and our differences.”
